Fed up, any advice?

Hi, new to the site, but find reading about others useful.
Diagnosed about 4 years ago with uc, took asacol and kept it under control until 10 months ago. Taken about 6 courses of pred, oral and enemas, now on 100 mg azathioprine daily, still not under control, suffer a lot of cramps, joint pain, exhaustion and migraines.
Just want to get better, tried cutting things out of diet, only thing that eases symptoms is not to eat at all. Really depressed, fed up of whole situation only thing that keeps me going is my 5 yr old son, my husband even trying to persuade me to smoke just to see if that will calm flare up.
Any advice or ideas what might help great fully received.

If you have never smoked before I wouldn't recommend starting. People who just recently quit and started to flare can often get relief by re-starting.

Rectal mesalamine on your list? You mentioned enemas, but only in the context of steroids.

Sorry you're having such a rough time. I posted a something similar just a few days ago, because it just seems like there's always something. I'd like just one full day of feeling "normal". Sometimes a bland diet with lots of clear liquids, along with a low stress environment can help let the body rest for a few days. Other than that, know that you're not alone, and we're here to support you!

Yes enema every night, don't know if it helps!

Uc sufferer 72, you should be in regular contact with your GI regarding your symptoms and quality of life. Your story sounds similar to mine. I was fine with Lialda and Rowasa for the first year of uc, then the flareup from hell started. I added 6mp and it and pred weren't enough. I did a year on pred, while me and my GI experimented to see what dosage of 6mp would work (we tried multiple), and finally I caved and tried Remicade. Remicade finally got me out of the flareup. Unfortunately, a lot of the treatment for uc is trial and error. I think we all get fed up when nothing seems to be working.
