I tried it (got up to 20 mg for about
2 weeks) and it had no effect on me whatsoever. That being said it does work for some people so its not a bad idea to try it for a few weeks.
However, I talked to some of the researchers in my lab (and its affiliates) and they have data which strongly suggests that its not actually the nicotine in smoke that has the preventative/therapeutic benefits for UC. They mentioned other compounds that they think do have this effect, but it was a while ago so I dont remember the names off the top of my head.
Still though, there is no denying that it is somehow beneficial to some people, so as I said above, give it a try (if you were thinking about
it)

Funny how many people want to attempt to go med free by adapting healthy lifestyles and here we have people going med free by smoking.

Coincidently just going to post on this. After 2.5 months on 14mg nicotine patch which worked GREAT, it stopped working. Tried Uceris for 1 week and no effect so now on the Evil Prednisone and doing enemas nightly and increased azathioprine (Imuran) from 50 to 75. No clue why the patch stopped working- it sure was doing an awesome job there! As someone else posted, the only consistent thing about
this illness is its inconsistencies.
After the pred, which is not putting me in remission though it has knocked back the pain and I can eat, I think I might give the patch another try. I don't need to state the obvious that we all find this disease to be so frustrating.
Healing thoughts to all!

Still doing the daily salmon with skin, and GBF powder, as per those studies.
Are you not getting tired of it? I will eat Salmon twice a week, and I love it, but if I had to eat it every day I think I would struggle.

moss, have you tried upping the nicotine patches? the studies were done with 28 mg patches so 14 mg is probably too low to see good results.

Id be cautious going up to 28 mg/day. That is a lot of nicotine and most of the studies Ive read use 21 mg as the max. But definitely, Id agree to up the dose from 14 mg
