What are you most excited about as far as future treatments go?

I was really excited about the multistem trial but it produced poor results so that kind of crushed my hopes.

My tops prospects are (in order):

1) Vedolizumab
2) PF-00547659 (Anti-MAdCAM Antibody)
3) Tofacitinib

Is Tofacitinib looking to get approval for UC soon? I am happy about Vedolizumab too but I hope the stats are better than some of the other biologics. Seems like nothing has great odds for long-term remission.

Last I heard it was expected to be approved around 2016 ish. However, Im hesitant about this one because it has already been rejected by the European equivalent of the FDA for RA due to safety concerns. That being said, what UC drug doesnt have those

To be quite honest, nothing that's a pharmaceutical venture impresses me that much anymore. On the other hand, personalized "poop pills" that account for individual microbial variances impress me the most.

This is the first time Ive heard about SSI. Is it only for Crohn's Disease?

I almost put a caveat on my post. I'm actually doing quite well now and am a long, long way off from even wanting to try Vedolizumab. On top of that, even if I wasn't doing so well, I believe I would be a long way off from doing it. For one I'm not sure my doc would be on board. For two, I'm pretty sure my insurance company wouldn't be on board. Fortunately, I am doing quite well and don't have to think about it. But, I am very excited about it being added as a treatment option. I would prefer it over long term prednisone, Imuran, 6MP, or any of the current biologics. Vedolizumab seems to have a very good safety record, so far.

I am glad to see ssi mentioned in this thread. It looks like something that could be very promising with minimal side effects.

If anyone is interested. I think the site is qubiologics.com or something. Go there and call the number and the people are very helpful. It's a study that is only being done in Canada at the moment but I've read a lot of promising testimonials.

I think I even heard they would pay for your travel expenses if you decided to do the trial.

Even though I am holding steady at the moment, it seems that we have some options finally coming out.

No, I believe it is being tested out for other auto immune diseases as well.

I'm still in remission, but I'm excited about every single bit of research going on. It's so wonderful to finally feel like there are more possible solutions coming every day.

Eight years ago when I started on Remicade, I was at the absolute end of the rope. The next place to go was the OR. Now there are several other possibilities. For the children coming along, there should be even better solutions.

i had great expectations about elafin by Vithera pharm, but i've read recently that it didn't prove to work well for ibd, it will probably work for gluten intolerance, so it's not my case

Faecal transplants and poop pills once some more research has worked out why response rate is about 50% in UC
