First, it takes time and practice to retain the enema. So stick with it and it will get easier. The fluid stains terribly, so put down an old towel just in case you spill some. Stay on or very near the toilet until you know things are settled, as enemas can come out quickly and unexpectedly.
Squeeze all of the air out of the bottle, a drop of fluid should be resting in the top of the tip before administering (injecting air bubbles will cause you discomfort and make you need to evacuate).
Stick about 1/2 the tip in, not all. Inject half of the fluid, slowly (to quick and it will be uncomfortable).
You will feel a strong urge to evacuate the liquid, ignore that sensation and it should go away after a minute or two.
Wait 5 minutes or so, and then inject the rest. I always do 1/2 at a time just in case I cannot retain the 1st attempt, gives me a second try.
Lay on your left side for 20-30 minutes until the liquid is fully absorbed. Read a book, watch tv, or whatever. Retire for the night.
Enemas fight rectal inflammation (the cause of dreaded urgency). As long as you retain some of it, then it will work. The less inflammation you have, the easier it gets. Give the enemas a few weeks and you should start noticing improvements.
