Im curious about what everyones longest flare ups have been, or the longest flare ups they have heard about from others. Unfortunately, for myself, Ive never really reached remission in the 4.5 years Ive had UC, and I was wondering how common it is to have a flare for this long?

I'm in your boat. Even though I've been doing better and better and better over my almost four years of this disease, I've never been able to claim remission yet, hence I have been in a constant flare for almost four years now. I have to shake my head in jealousy whenever I read all the posts on here about flaring or not flaring because I really don't know what that is. I only know flaring and pre-UC.

Dx'd 97, never been in remission.

@ Gary - I can definitely relate to the feelings of jealousy! Have you had any bumps in the road or has it been a pretty steady rate of improvement?

@ Dr-A - Wow 17 years!?!? Thats insane... Have you ever considered surgery?

Yes, I have for the last 4 of them. Only reason I haven't is the biologics made life a little more predictable.

Five years from diagnosis until after my second Remicade infusion. That was 5 years of anywhere from 15-25 stools a day with blood, mucus, pain, the whole thing. I'm terrified of ever going back there.

Generally speaking I have had a steady improvement overall but of course it's not a straight line.
