Most processed foods (things that are far away from what they were as a plant or animal) have high sugar and/or salt content.
I know everyone said not to eat a lot of salt, but use it as a guideline rather than a strict rule. Skip things like chips that are guaranteed to be high salt (unless you find one that says low salt).
Fast food, most lunchmeats, chips... those sort of things are high salt.
You can get popcorn that is low salt. Any veggies for salads would be no salt (they're unprocessed... or natural). Fruit is another good choice. You could do milk and cereal that isn't too high in salt/sugar if you tolerate milk. I find milk to make my flares much worse.
Don't freak out about this all. I wish somebody older had told me not to worry so much about everything with this disease (I got it at 18 years old). The second time I went on prednisone I just exercised a lot more and did much better than the first time. But yeah, the high salt foods will help your body hold water in... which could lead to your face and body storing more water while you're on pred.
I'm just trying to console you a little because eating really low salt is very hard. My mom had to do this sort of diet due to a different health problem, and had to fix most meals herself. So, what I'm saying is to just try to make the obvious choices, exercise some, try to limit your cravings even though prednisone makes you hungry, and you will be fine without having to stress about watching everything perfectly.
thank you so much. This is really helping me a lot! I was really freaking out about
all of this and when I went to the store and couldn't find very much with "low salt" I got scared because I thought I was going to have to not eat normally, but this is really helpful. Thank you again. (:
