I haven't taken any more VSL #3 after taking two doses (Wed and Thurs last week) and reacting badly to it. By yesterday, I was totally back to where I was prior to taking it. I didn't have a BM on Saturday after using a hydrocort enema around noon, and went ahead and used a mesalamine enema at bedtime. I had two fairly loose (but not urgent) BMs yesterday morning, but with the contents of two enemas in my colon, I'm not sure it'd be possible to have a super formed BM. Anyway, no BMs yesterday after the morning, so ended up using a mesalamine enema at bedtime after not expelling the hydrocort enema. Two BMs again this morning again, loose but not urgent.

So I think I'm actually doing pretty good. I've not noticed any mucus or blood, and the only pain/cramping I've had was due to the VSL #3.

I have an email into Sigma-Tau to see if they offer any sort of return/refund (I'm not really hopeful about this), but I thought it was worth a shot, given the expense. I hate opening my fridge and seeing that box in there, knowing how much it cost and knowing that I'm not going to be able to use it. Blergh.

Glad to read that you seem better-- try not to stress over expenses just now. With no blood nor mucus 1 hydrocort daily should firm things up. You might actually profit from a temporary switch off Rowasa/generic. I used it successfully over 14 yrs, but then it turned on me viciously during a 2009 flare. So-- it's possible to top out of meds however helpful they've been. See Rockland Mom's threads if you haven't yet. Good point, Old Hat, about maybe going off mesalamine and seeing what happens.

I'm not exactly stressed over the cost of the VSL #3 (we're comfortable from a financial standpoint), but I'm just enough of a tightwad that I hate paying for something that I can't use!

Anyone on here want it? It's not the Rx version, so legal to ship. I've still got the cooler/box/ice packs it came in.
