Normal movements small amounts of blood

Hi so I was diagnosed with Uc in September after a major flare. Was put on the normal routine drugs, prednisolone, mesalazine twice a day and enemas.

All seemed to clear up but this month I had a day where I had 8 bowel movements mostly blood. I was put on a short course of pred which got it back under control and they popped me on salofalk suppositories.

So, I now have 2-3 solid bowel movements a day. Not blood on the stools but always traces of blood either in the water or tissue, with blood clot style drops in the water too.

I have no cramps or pain. Slight wind which I thinks from the enemas etc but that's about it.

Any ideas or experience with this? Am I still flaring or is this just the norm now? Or do the symptoms sound less severe and maybe a hemmie etc?

Advise needed please as new to this and the nurses seem to only understand the theory and not the individual.

This is not remission, but it doesn't sound like a full-blown flare, either. In any case, your goal should be no blood. This does not sound like hemmies.

In between your first treatment protocol and this relapse, were you continuing to take the oral and rectal meds?

Still sounds like your flaring though you have improved. Keep using those rectal meds if at any point you are stopping don't.

Ok thanks alot. Great that I can chat to people with experience. I know it may sound odd but I don't think the Uc is up in the colon now but more in the rectum. The suppositories seem to work, I take one at night and one in morning.

I can hold the morning one until early afternoon.

Do you think I should just continue with this? Even with the suppositories I still see some traces of blood. Should I just keep at it?

Oh and kazbern.... Yes was still taking all meds although not the enemas or supps until recently again. I don't feel the tablets I'm on do anything but the supps really do.

I think you'd probably do better with a 4g mesalamine enema at night. Gets you more coverage.

It doesn't sound odd at all that you have continuing inflammation in the rectum. That is some stubborn stuff right there.
