Surgery?

I have had colitis, microscopic for years. My flare ups are more often. At 71 I am concerned they will want to do surgery. I have other medical issues that would put me as a poor risk for any type of surgery. I have been on the enema now for 2 days and still just water coming out. Usually. It is just in the morning when I get up, not all day, 2 to 4 times. My last lab was very good but I am so tired and no strength.
I have tried all of the most common treatments over the years and they worked, my last remission lasted over a year. This time nothing is helping. We took in our 15 year old grand daughter a year ago and the stress has been high. She is leaving the 27 th of June, may I will start healing then. I am very concerned about surgery. Thnks

With only diarrhea absent lots of pain and bleeding, I don't think surgery is most likely recommendation - especially if you are a poor risk. Ultimately, you make the decision anyway.

Which enema? Steroid enemas can work a little faster, and ASA a little slower but both can take a while to help. More than 2 days.

Has you doc spoke of any of the newer biologics?

I don't know the answer to your question about if they would do the surgery(ies) on you with your current medical condition(s). You could ask the healing well ostomy forum for input or jpouch.org . At 71 they would most likely perform surgery on you if you had certain types polyps or colon cancer but your situation may be elective instead of necessary which might put your situation in doubt for surgery.

Why don't you try a biological? At 71 years old I doubt that the biological would lower your life-expectancy rate but with any medication whether you are 21 or 71 years old there are risks.

Have your been tested for C.diff? I'd start there first and get a 2nd opinion from a GI who is an IBD specialist.
