Hi everybody,
I am not sure how many here remember or recognise me but I was reporting here on my journey with FT (home version) about
2 years ago and got in remission after that. I am now experiencing what I think is the start of a new flare (not sure yet but 95%) so I don't think its more than fair that I report this as well. I am basically getting an increased amount of gas and a lot of gurgling noises in the night.
This was my original thread:
https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=38&m=2379824
I am currently eating asacol 4x100 mg and have started using pentasa 1g twice per day since a few days. Will get in contact with my GI today to see what he thinks. I will most likely perform another fecal transplant as it looks so have started collecting the items I need again. Planning on doing a month of FT as things look right now. I have repeatedly said that I don't believe FT for UC patients is a permanent cure for the majority but if it can put me in a long remission again then I think I would prefer that as opposed to eating large doses of prednisone. I hate to have be right on this but it looks like I may very well have been.
I will probably be creating a new thread when I start the FTs
All the best

Best of Luck, hope you do well again with another round. I agree and I don't care if FT is permanent, as long as it is feasible and lasts long enough for me to enjoy life. ANYTHING is better than continously putting man made pharm chemicals in my body. Just curious did you take any meds over the last two years or have you just been living?

I have been on Asacol 4x100mg since I stopped the FTs. No idea whether they have helped to keep me in remission or not but I am generally sceptical, especially towards myself, so I see no reason to exclude one long term treatment (with few side effects) just because I try FT as a way of getting into remission.
What I have experienced over the last few months are gas pains coming and going from time to time but this rapid build up of gas and gurgling is new. Stomach woke me up this morning.

Of course I remember you curl. Your success inspired me to start a thread in which data on fecal transplants treatment is gathered. Your name is one of the first on the list of success stories. https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=38&m=3066732 I didn't know you were taking the meds after the fts. So sorry you are experiencing some of these symptoms again. I remember you were bleeding and that was gone half way through the month of treatment. Are you seeing any blood now? I really hope you get better soon. You are lucky to have a suitable donor living with you.
Could you please copy paste your above reply to our data gathering thread. Although many of us want to believe that fts always works, in my opinion, it is important that we remain as unbiased as possible.
I wish you a full recovery next time around.

Not seeing blood and not having any urgency yet just lots of gurgling and gas in the afternoons. Around 2BMs per day in the morning, mainly due to me drinking strong coffee and this causing a second BM. I want to make sure I'm as empty as possible to give the suppositories a chance.
I have switched to a low carb diet for now. I'm pretty sure this is a flare that has been slowly growing and is now gaining momentum.

UC is an autoimmune condition which throws your gut out of whack. Unfortunately, just getting your gut back in whack is not a permanent solution as the underlying problem still exists. Still, getting regular FT's every so often is probably a better option than being on most UC meds long term.

2 years is a heck of a long time. If it did not show up in that long of a time frame for me, I would have swore it was gone.
Many individuals are approaching 13 years without recurrence, which makes me believe there was some missing bacteria their colons needed.
Perhaps FMT should be your maintenance therapy, like every 6 weeks or so. Or perhaps another donor might offer a more permanent solution. So many question marks!
Either way, I wish you the best!

Yes the stomach for us with UC seem to have a tendency to give in to more harmful bacteria and this in turn starts our immune system, at least this is how I interpret the sequence of events, not the other way around.
Too bad there are not poop-tablets yet :) oh well its quite a quick procedure in the morning

Quick question - how about
the flu or cold or any type of illness like that prior (say within a month or two) of you not feeling well again?

100mg asacol? I haven't heard of that. I thought they were 400mg... I am sorry you're having symptoms. I hope another FT gets you back into remission. You may try increasing your dose of Asacol in the meantime. Many of us take 3600 or 4800mg a day + rectal meds.

Sorry to hear about
your symptoms. Have you eaten anything new that might have been the trigger? If its gas and gurgling try eating fresh crushed ginger in small amounts. If I remember correctly , you were following SCD diet ..correct? If yes are you still following it?

I didn't have any flu or stomach issues prior to this. I have been slacking on the diet lately more and more. Wasn't really eating gluten except in small amounts but ate most of everything else including rice, fries and quite carb heavy food. It seems like this flare has been sneaking on me.
It started with me passing more smell free gas in the evenings about
a month ago. Then the stomach started producing annoying amounts of gas about
2 weeks ago and has started gurgling the last few days

2 years is a good break. But yeh im in the camp that FTs can be a great treatment option with few side effects, but not sure about
cure. I totally agree with your comment though "Yes the stomach for us with UC seem to have a tendency to give in to more harmful bacteria and this in turn starts our immune system, at least this is how I interpret the sequence of events, not the other way around."
Well said. I think this is exactly how things go with us.
Maybe Fts every 2 months or so can keep you in remission. You know like remicade infusion every 8 weeks for you it's FTs. Better and safer.

Well hopefully things resolve soon. Must be very frustrating and worrisome feeling that again after so long. Sorry to hear that. Thanks for keeping everyone updated. Good luck with the new round of FT's.

Sorry to hear that is appears to be coming back, and I will definitely be interested in hearing how it all goes with your new FT.

Thank you for all kind and encouraging words. You guys are awesome
I study a lot of human rights issues and it's easy to loose faith in humans when seeing how much suffering there is out there, but you give me a boost of new hope!
