I know I have been absent lately so I thought since I have some free time I would check in to see how you all are doing. I see we have some new members...welcome to HW!

For any of you that don't know, I've been in a great remission now for 2 years (thanks to Remicade!)And even while in remission, I still stuck around to help as many people as I could. But life has me pretty busy these days. However, I will not apologize for my absence. For the first time in 22 years of having UC, I've been actually been able to forget about it :) Most of you know my story but for those that don't, let's just say that it's been a very rocky road for me. In my darkest hours the lovely people here on HW have helped me like you wouldn't think possible.

Even tho I have been absent, that doesn't mean I'm gone for good. How could I possibly leave you guys???? My mod duties still are in effect even if I don't come on every day...just know I'm still here if any situation arises. Just email me with any concerns you may have if you wish (my phone will tell me if I have emails)

Things should be slowing down for me by the fall and hey guess what? I shall return! Until then, you all hang in there...take one day at a time and know that my thoughts are with each and every one of you.

I'm glad that you're feeling good.
Are you still using Remicade ? If so, how many weeks between treatments?

Awesome to hear you're up to keeping in step with your busy schedule.

You won't be able to leave for good (kind of that Hotel California thing...lol.

ps. did you see the pics of my new kitty? not used to "having a youngster"..and the 3 weeks feels like 3 months already...lol.

Rey, yes I am still on Remi. In fact I'm getting another infusion this coming Monday. I go in every 8 weeks.

Q, no I didn't. Did you share them on here?

Sherry, I'm new to posting here but have been benefiting from this website and the kindness of UC community members for more than a year.
I just saw your profile and I see we have some similarities that made me wonder if you or other UCers know:
Do folks with UC also tend to have other autoimmune diseases as well? And common allergies?
Like you, I have osteoarthritis (grade 4), allergic asthma (also with hypersensitivity pneumonitis, especially molds/dust for which I take Xolair - by injection- & Zyrtec), and UC for over 10 years.
Plus a number of drug allergies, including all forms of mesalamine and 6MP (hives and high fevers with both). Also severe allergic reactions to sulfa and penicllin medications. If I had known about the inability to tolerate mesalamine & 6MP, I would've gone right to Remicade, but suffered those allergic reactions on top of months of very bad flaring.
If we knew there were a general profile - a common constellation of problems & allergies - maybe we could prevent suffering for others. Hindsight is always 20-20, but I SO wish I had started Remicade after a month of flaring and the prednisone not helping, instead of not being able to function for 9 months and then my desperation trumped my fear of remicade.
Happily, 6 months on remicade got me fully functioning, hoping that it will continue as long as possible. May others find this relief too!

People who have one autoimmune disorder are much more likely to develop additional ones. I have several, despite the fact that no one else in my family ever had them.

Allergies are not necessarily related to autoimmune disorders, as they involve the immune system reacting to outside agents. AI disorders involve reactions to our own body tissues.

Enjoy yourself! But we do miss you while away-- so I'll second Quincy's request for a brief update here 'n' there. (()) / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
