Maybe you could try rectal meds-it doesn't sound like from your descript
ion you've used those yet. Those have gotten me out of flares before.
Probiotics work for some people. They definitely work for me. I use VSL#3, the over the counter strength.
It does sound like a flare to me, but I guess "bad" could be subjective. For me, when I feel like I'm flaring I do whatever I can to nip it in the bud early if humanly possible.
There are tons of more knowledgeable people here that may have good advice for you-I hope you're flare-free soon.

Have you ever taken prednisone before? Since you have a lack of time and going on an extended trip, I would just add prednisone to the mix for the next several weeks and taper back when you get back, readjusting your treatment plan at that point. With your schedule you don't have time for trial and error until you get back home.

I personally would not take oral prednisone unless absolutely required to stay out of hospital.
I second the rec. for melamine enemas or prednisone enemas. The pred. enemas are not systemic so side effects are much less.
Enemas are one of the best meds to nip symptoms because they are topical, reach the inflamed area directly.
I also had good luck with VSL#3 but only in combination with diet, enemas and oral meds.
Good luck.

Ditto imagardner, except that VSL#3 actually gave me really bad diarrhea. And I'd probably take pred a bit before she would, but I wouldn't recommend you take it at this point.
I'd definitely look into a probiotic supplement, though.
