Left sided ache/knot/tightness

Hi

Does anyone out there ever experience a feeling in the left side, like a knot or tightness. I have an odd feeling round where my colon is but it isnt painful.


It's been there a couple of weeks. Everything seems to be functioning well and i have only had 1 day with a miniscule amount of blood, no excessive gas etc. I do have major mouth ulcers but i have had since i've had this.

It started by just coming about in the evenings but seems to be there all day now.

Just curious as to whether anyone else out there has any experience with a horrible nagging tight, yet painless, feeling in their side, and whether it should be anything to worry about or a warning sign for somethnig?

It might just be stool backing up. You can try massaging the lump and see if you can move it. A clockwise belly rub is a reasonable way to get your colon moving. You can also do some gentle twists and squeeze your colon to move stool down.

Hi I'm not sure it is that. I'm having 2-3 regular movements a day, every day.

Or could it still be that?

sounds like spasming with flaring. What meds are you on?

What supplements are you taking?

I'm on balsalazide 3x daily and nightly 2g salofalk enema. It tends to go away when I have a bm and then comes back with the hour. It's a persistent ache. Hard to explain

spasming....or gas or both in combo with flaring.

Ask your doctor for an antispasmodic.....what works for me is dicyclomine. In the US it's called Bentyl.

I started with 10mg and now take 20mg 1 - 4x daily, depending on if I'm flaring or not.

I am taking magnesium, zinc and calcium daily. That's it. I'm not sure if it's spasms, I'm guessing spasms would come and go.

This is a persistent feeling. Doesn't come and go. Doesn't get worse. Just like a fist is stuck in my side. Very strange.

Like I suggested...ask for an antispasmodic.

Is the magnesium in a combo supplement or alone.
Just FYI...too much mag can cause some contractions and looser stool.
But...calcium can help calm the gut. Is it in a ration of 2 (cal) : 1 (mag)?

How much zinc...too much can also cause some cramping.

spasming is normal in an IBD or IBS gut. Left side is where the "download" peristalsis happens. If you have stool in the sigmoid, and you're needing to go...the peristalsis might be causing some spasming (I call it hissy-fits).

Some food changes might help, but as you heal, that should ease. Again...antispasmodics can help.

How long have you been on the Salofalk enemas nightly?

I am in the UK yes. I have been on enemas for 3 weeks now. But I'd say off an on for a good 3 months. They seem to work the best for me.

The magnesium is 2 100mg tabs a day. And I take 1 15mg zinc a day.

I have no blood. Stools are solid 2-3 times a day which is normal for me. I have crazy mouth ulcers at the moment though. No gas, no fatigue.

I cycle about 50-70 miles a week. And swim a lot. All in all I feel well. Just this funny nagging constant ache

So we have news....... As I left that thread I started getting a gurgle. Low and behold, off to the toilet and I have some d followed by solid stools, with the dreaded blood.

darn you gut. It has a way of creeping up on you. I have a colonoscopy next week so I'm hoping I can get this under control. Enemas and suppositories start tomorrow I think.
