Saw my GI today. He told me of a new topical drug (Enema) which he thought would benefit me. I believe it is an immunosuppressant that is an enema. It is used only for about
8 weeks. Unfortunately he didn't tell me the name of it but I have looked on the internet and come up with Alicaforsen. He is going to send me more details. Has anyone heard of this?

It sounds like he's talking about
Uceris. it is a steroid that releases in the colon. It's an 8 week course but it's a pill. Could that be what he was talking about
? Enema and immunesupressant throw me off but 8 week course and topical delivery sound similar.

Uceris was the first thing I thought of due to the 8 week timeline. Immunosuppressents usually take a lot longer than that to work and are usually long term drugs

Uceris enema would be a Budesonide enema. Alternative to hydrocortisone enema. More expensive.

Phoned my IBD nurse today. It is definitely Alicaforcen. It is an enema that is used nightly for 6 weeks. She thinks it is like an immunosuppressant but with it being pretty new she does have much info. The only problem is that they would have to apply to use it therefore you would have to be a suitable candidate. Also the cost comes into it too. Bottom line is that even though it has been suggested to me, I may not get it. Wish my GI hadn't said anything now. Maybe I would have to put up a fight.
