Which allergy meds are safe to take?

Hi all! I am back to ask another question on behalf of my 82 yo Mom with UC. She recently had a summer cold and I gave her Tylonol Cold and Mucinex and it cleared right up without causing a flare up. That was about 2 weeks ago. For the past couple of days her nose has been stopped up but no sore throat or other symptoms. It's extremely hot and humid here in the deep south and many people are having allergy and sinus problems. I'm thinking Mom may need some allergy meds. Is there one that won't cause her a flare up? She takes Delzicol and has not had a flare up since her UC diagnosis 3 1/2 years ago. TIA!

I've taken many different allergy meds and they never affect my UC.

Thanks! Garylouisville, you are right about that, sure hoping she won't get sinus infection or need antibiotics. I'm keeping a close eye on her.

garylouisville, Mom has always refused a flu shot and, fortunately, she has only had a head cold and maybe two sinus infections ever! I will talk with her about that vaccine. She is pretty healthy despite her UC and osteoarthritis in her knees and her forgetfulness (dr. won't classify it as dementia, just old age!). She takes a daily probiotic.

Thanks for that advice, old hat! I did not know that. I am always urging her to drink more water and she manages about 3 to 4 glasses a day. I was not aware oral mesalamine could cause dehydration. I did give her a claritin this morning although she did not seems as stuffy. You all give such good advice I'm so glad I found this forum to help me take good care of her.
