Hi all, I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Proctitis exactly a year ago. At the time I had blood in my stool although no other discomfort so I had no idea I had the disease. I started on Mesalamine Enema's and while this took the blood away, I started to notice rectal tenderness about 4-6 weeks in. I have been on the enemas (Rowasa) for a year and I have not had bleeding. However the rectal tenderness has never gone away. There was a point where I took the Oral Mesalamine (Apriso) as well, though I discontinued. I am now on the Enema's twice a day and a Cortisone Suppository. I feel less rectal tenderness throughout the day but I still have it. Now instead of 8 hours a day, around 4 hours a day of discomfort (although this varies based on the day). It has been tolerable, I would say a pain level of 2-3 but it is annoying. I have never been hospitalized. Is it possible that using too many enemas/suppositories is exasperating the pain/tenderness? Do I need to perhaps increase the amount of the Cortisone Suppositories (I am currently using once a day 25mg). This tenderness is annoying, I have had it for a while and don't feel 100% with it present.
