Tight Chest..I hope this goes away.

Hi, I switched to e-cigs Feb 2013, and I have had no problems at all, until recently that is! I bought a new super long e-cig, and started puffing on that, and I loved it!...but I think I have overdone it, and I had to stop about a week ago, with a tight chest, which even in my days of heavy smoking, I never, ever, experienced, so I am thinking my body is not as robust as it once was, there is a weakness there, perhaps due to UC.

I feel like all avenues of pleasure are closing, its terrible! I am typing this with a nicotine patch on as quite honestly I am terrified of even puffing on another e-cig at the moment...so I am just hoping this will clear up if I leave off of them....do you think it will?

Also if I decided not to smoke the e-cig ever again, do you think there could be any repercussions for me, for my UC, I'm in remission, and nicotine helps some people with UC, and I have always had nicotine in my system...I just don't know what to do really...If I completely stop maybe I could have a relapse.

Sounds like you have a personal choice to make. Seems that the nicotine patch helps with UC www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199403243301202 according to this article in the NEJM.

As for the tight chest, I would let the doctor know.

My husband (he doesn't have UC) who is a heavy smoker got one of the e-cigs and he says it felt like he was breathing through water, hard to describe. Very uncomfortable and took a few weeks to disappear.

I would see a Dr, at least to have a listen to your chest and heart, be on the safe side.

I had chest tightness once for no apparent cause, felt like a horse was laying on my chest, wouldn't go away, felt as though it was hard to breath, went to ER, my heart rate was so high that they hooked me to a EKG for several hours and gave me a cat scan with IV contrast, but everything was normal, after a few days rest and some seditives, it went away. I never smoked nor used nicotine back then though.

If it were me, I would see a Dr. and I would taper down the nicotine at least for the time being.

Also, it just occurred to me, Nicotine can cause GERD\reflux, that can make chest tightness sometimes without the classic heartburn symptoms, sometimes it can linger for several days in my case if I have too much pop or nicorette. Try some gaviscon or acid reducer, worth a shot.

Did your husband go to the doctors, or just wait thinking it would ease up, because that sounds close to how I feel, I cant believe it! its been nearly a week now, and if I don't start to feel better by early next week I will have to go to the docs. I don't think I am going to be able to smoke again sad which is a shame for me, I liked it, I liked it a LOT, and of course I needed the nicotine as well.

I thought that e-cigs were okay, so its been quite a shock, depressing really...thanks everyone
