I had an endoscopy two weeks ago and everything looked fine. Therefore my GI suggested to reduce the mesalamine from 4g to 2g daily.
Since last week by BM have become worse and now I am dealing with heavy D for some days. I don't know if this is my UC acting up or a viral/bacterial infection. My daughter came back from scouts camp last week where she and almost everybody else caught a viral or bacterial infection.
Now, I saw my family doctor today and he suggested upping the mesalamine again from 2g to 4g. (In the mean while they'll be testing my stool for a bacterial infection.) My question: Is this an OK thing to do? He doesn't seem to know much about UC.
Actually, what is the suggested course of action if one suspects a viral infection? Wait until it passes?
