I do want to say that you are making a huge, huge, huge, mistake to stop the Asacol after 4 weeks. Did I say huge? UC is a lifelong chronic disease that will be with you forever so you have to treat it forever. You should thank your lucky stars that you found something so easy to put you into remission.
I agree, but only if you are not allergic to the Asacol, or you are certain Asacol isn't causing the problem.. That may be the case. I am allergic to mesalamines and glad that I didn't remain on them. It gave me flu-like and pleurisy-like symptoms.
That you blacked out in the bathroom should be a huge red flag that something is wrong.
