Bananagirl- tell me about how you reached remission. Is this a regular nicotine patch you are using? How did you think to try that lol? What kind of starch is it you eat and is this the only starch you have?

hey chrissy!! i use a 21 mg patch now but i started with 4 mg lozenges. i kept increasing my dose over 3 weeks or so. i was never a smoker so i got nauseous, dizzy, and didn't feel so good at first. i was doing 5 lozenges a day and then switched to the 21 mg patch.

my symptoms went away within 5 minutes of having the lozenge in my mouth so i knew it was better than any drug i'd ever tried!

i tried it because lots of people on here have! there are so many threads on it and i figured why not!

as for starch, i usually eat sweet potatoes these days. i just like them!

Oh ok so where do you get this stuff is it from a dr or just the store?

As far as starch goes do you stay grain free still?

chrissy, you can get patches and lozenges at any drug store. i bought them without a prescription and then eventually asked my doctor for one. he agreed no problem since he knows how much nicotine helps UC.

yeah, i am still grain free.

Diet has no effect on my inflammation whatsoever. I wish it did!

I want to try nicotine as well. Can't be any worse than UC meds.

I follow paleo because i care about my health! I find it pretty easy now but cooking gets exhausting! Going on two years so far.

Annadee, yeah that is how i feel! I just needed to get off prednisone and simponi/ imuran wasnt working enough for me to do that.

When did you start to eat sweet potatoes,do you eat them everyday,one or more a day.

Did you notice any improvement after starting to eat sweet potatoes, and prior to nicotine.

Are you off all meds now.

I ask this since I believe there might be a connection with remission and sweet potatoes.

Specifically the protease inhibitor in sweet potatoes.

Banana- yeah I know what you mean. That's really cool you have been doing it 2 years! Has your weight stabilized then? Do you stay away from restaurants or do you occasionally go now? Thanks for answering my questions!! :)

Old mike, i think i started eating starcges in jan 2013. This was after i felt that scd wasnt working. I did it to firm up my poop.

I eat other ones though- yucca, plantain, potato. I prob eat sweet potato about fives times a month but i do go weeks/ months without any sweet potato at all.

I take whats in my sig. Still on three meds.

Chrissy, no my weight isnt stable. Im barely 100 lbs. i dont go out to eat either. I cook my meals.

chrissy, it's from work. i dont get to eat much when i am there since it is so busy. i literally have enough time to shove something in my mouth and then that's it. constantly on my feet and lifting. i mainly eat hardboiled eggs since i can down those in 30 seconds and epic bars, beef sticks, or smoked fish. i also eat my fair share of icing to be honest since i am in the bakery. i'm gonna start bringing a jar of coconut oil in my purse so i can eat spoonfuls of that!

my starch intake is totally random. i never eat it every day. i go weeks without it and then if my bm's are lose, i will make a few sweet potatoes/yucca/plantains and eat those for a couple days to firm things back up. when i do eat it, it just depends how my poop is. it's never more than a cup a day though.

I'm in the same boat with my job! I barely get to eat at work either :( lol I used to love icing. Yeah that makes sense tho.

hardboiled eggs, beef sticks, smoked fish and possibly pig skin and fat.... bacon fat balls, icing, ummmm I'm trying to think what other stuff you eat....

I have no clue how your colon handles this stuff!!!

Icing sounds pretty darn good though. That was always my favourite - forget the cake, just double up on the icing!

What about veggies?

Chrissy, search for the nicotine threads in here. I cant remember at all how quickly i did it. Theres lots of info on here!

Mark, the common denominator in those foods is zero fiber! I do eat some veggies at dinner time if i feel like it. I just prefer the meat to be the main event and the veggie as more of a condiment!
