Question: Since Predisone is potassium wasting, does it matter what does it's at for it to waste potassium?
Here's what happened: So I just got out of the ER. :( Finally for something other then a UC flare! Though I still have large amounts of formed BM 2-4 x a day.
Anyways... I've been getting these awful muscle attacks, where my body goes completely numb. Especially my hands and my legs. Breathing is shallow and my eyes get blurry. I've had problems with severe hypokalemia so rushed to the ER ....
Today Potassium was 3.6. (normal range is 3.5-5) And they discharged me with Hyperventilation (seriously!) What a joke...
Anyways I've been working with my nephrologist (kidney doctor) to figure out my potassium issues. On two occasions I was 2.3, but were believed to be from volume depletion from D and Vomiting.
Now I'm very healthy, aside from a few large bowel movements a day. Normal stools, no blood or mucous. Just a lot of Poop! I'm on 5 mg of predisone and end it completely on Thursday.
My question is... Since Predisone is potassium wasting, does it matter what does it's at for it to waste potassium?
I take prescription potassium supplements 1500mg 2x daily with a potassium rich diet and my potassium is still on the low end of normal! I just don't get it!?
Scares the crap out of me! I know some of you have told me your potassium issues, however I just don't understand how I can eat and have that much supplementation and still be on the low end! They think it may be Gitelman Syndrom (rare kidney disorder) But, I just don't think it's that. Predisone and my UC may be the cause??
So confused and ER doctors are of no help whatsoever. Hyperventilation!? Hmm, no.
