Proctitis Flare that will not go away...

helllo wondering if anyone can provide any advice here i got diagnosed a few years ago w mild proctitis, i was in remission after a month of betneso for around seven months full remission.
I started to flare again with symptoms of urgency, mucous and blood. I've now been in this flare for a YEAR. with varying degrees of blood and mucous throughout, but mainly having mucous. ive tried the 4g enemas, suppos, cortifoam ( didnt do much at all for me).
I have also been on the SCD diet religiously since the day i was diagnosed, i take a tonne of vitamins, i've tried acupuncture and nothing seems to get me fully out of it. I somehow still with every bowel have mucous, or mucous with blood in the mucous no matter what drug im on.
finally my doc prescribed betnesol, I almost came out of the flare when i used betnesol for 2 weeks ( when originally diagnosed betnesol for a month got me into remission) but since mucous was still lingering, within a month blood came back.
I'm now currently going back on betnesol i figured to try for a week since it works pretty fast and now its improved but i still get mucous and it doesnt seem to even be working as fast as the last time a month ago.
anyways im super frustrated i dont know what else to do any thoughts?/ advice? its scares me since ive been diagnosed ive only used betnesol twice and now the third time im using it it doesnt seem to be working as well... has anyone had any luck trying anything else, i cant believe how long this flare has lasted over a year next week...

I was originally diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis and went a whole year in remission and then I got a flare that I just could not come out of it and went another year and a half with constant symptoms. When he did a sigmoidoscopy it seemed the uc went up to ulcerative protosigmoidtitis (about 2 more inches) which I think was due to the long time flaring. My doctor finally prescribed hydrocortisone enemas for 2 weeks, things looked good after a week on hydrocoritisone and after 2 weeks no more blood or mucous. Then in another week or so the blood came back. He finally changed my oral meds from asacol hd to balsalazide (at my request) and put me again on hydrocortisone enemas but this time to take for 5 days. Well that didn't work as far as the balsalazide, I don't think if had a chance to start working yet so I took it upon myself to do the hydrocortisone enemas for a full 3 weeks and then alternate them with the mesalamine enemas for 2 weeks. I am now (fingers crossed) in remission and this has been since the end of May.

I think the fact that I changed oral meds and did the hydrocortisone enemas for a longer time helped clear the colon. The balsalazide helped also.

I read somewhere on the internet that a lot of doctors make the mistake of putting their patients on hydrocoritisone enemas for a short time and that the colitis is still active even though it seems that it isn't and that they should be taken for 21 days, so that is what I did.

I am not sure if you are on any oral meds but you should be.

I still do the mesalamine enemas nightly because I am scared that the uc will reappear but I will eventually try to lower that.

I think Carol has a good plan, too. I caution you both tho that frequent use of steroid enemas could make your disease steroid resistant. I like the fact that Carol now uses mesalamine enemas to support her remission. I hope you will do the same Kathleen.
