The weekly blood work is a precaution when you initially start it to make sure both, your white blood cell count does not get too low (lowering your white blood cell count is the point of the med), and your liver function appears normal. I am on every 3 months now for my blood work. Most GIs start your Imuran dosage low, and increase it after a number of weeks after a number of good blood test results come in. Imuran might be enough for you, it's worth a shot, and the remicade may not be needed. Both Imuran and Remicade carry most of the same black box warnings but the severe side effects are extremely rare (4 in 10,000 or 0.004% for imuran). Good luck,
