I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who takes more than 4 pills of lialda a day, and if that at all is possible with any benefit? I have been on 4 lialda pills since my diagnosis four years ago, and just started having some problems. I have never had any side effects from the medication, if that means anything.

I tried it once to six pills with no apparent improvement but caused additional pressure and abdominal pain. I supplement the Lialda with Tumeric and quing dai and now I take 2 Lialda per day with greatly reduced symptoms.

There used to be a moderator here named songlady who regularly took more than 4 a day with good results. You could probably look her up to find out details.

I am on Lialda and only take 2 per day when I am not flaring. I do notice when I take the max amount and nightly enemas I seem to go more and my stool is less formed. I wouldn't want to increase to more than 4 a day. Don't want to increase the risk of damaging my liver.

Generally 4.8 grams of oral meslamine (your 4 lialda a day) is the maximum oral prescribed. You can also take a 4 gram nightly enema concurrently with the oral 4.8gs a day. Beyond that does not seem to help. You need stronger uc meds at that point, 6mp or imuran are the next step for uc patients.

If you are saying that 4 pills per day really isn't doing much then I'd say that taking more isn't going to do much either.

I would definitely up your dose for 1-2 weeks -
