Hi All,

My stubborn self convinced my doctor ONE LAST TIME to try out VSL #3 (ds 4x a day) while tapering off my pred (currently down to 2.5mgs every other day...hopefully stopping next friday). I'm feeling ok, but she said the real test will be in the next month - 2 months. Is this generally when everyone else was convinced that their remission was taking hold?

She wants to start tapering down my 4 packets a day but I'm more than happy to take 4 packets for life instead of remicade, etc. :)

Your doctor probably means that the test will be after pred is out of your system whether you can retain remission on maintenance meds, VSL#3 should help.

You should follow your instincts on amount of VSL#3 amount, if it's not hurting you then keep it at max.
I eventually quit VSL#3 when it started making me a little gassy and I was in remission. Now I only use it when things go bad (not much at all). My dose was 1 packet of regular dose packet just before bed, never could get the RX for DS dose.

You should trust your own instincts on tapering VSL because you are 100% right, the doctor will have you taper the VSL, you might flare again, and the solution will be either more pred or Remicade. Sounds pretty stupid to me.
