While researching intestinal alkaline phosphatase I found this.
This looks like a pretty good explanation, for antibiotic induced c diff, and possibly even UC.
Also why FT would fix the problem,my guess is that it of course repopulates normal bacteria that eat sialic acid.
Basically sialic acid and fucose is liberated from mucus,after antibiotics there is enough suppression of other normal
gut bacteria the eat sialic acid,the c diff then feeds and expands. Might even be why protease inhibitors help
with UC.
