Uceris in enema form gains tentative FDA approval

They anticipate to hit the market in Q1 2015. They refer to this being treatment for "distal" UC which is a term I haven't heard before but apparently is how the majority of UC cases are categorized.

I didn't find Uceris in oral form particularly helpful for me, but may be something to keep an eye on.

Aren't foam and liquid steroid enemas already available in generics? Why do we need a brand named one from Uceris? Maybe it goes further or something?

The Uceris claim to fame was it is an oral pill steroid with a delayed released coating similar to other 5ASA meds (e.g., Asacol HD, Lialda) that only released the medicine in the large intestine. With foam enemas, there is no delayed release necessary, as it is applied directly to the source. Confused...

Also your distal link is bad, has a session ID within it, when I try to access it gives an access error...

I like more rectal med choices. Yes, not glamorous and annoying ...but for me, the most helpful. If only we could get the Asacol foam that has been in Europe for a decade to come to the USA. C'mon guys...more options. If no cure, than at least put more options on the table. Thanks for sharing.

Ok..thought though...how is this different than Cortifoam? ( I just read it was a foam enema). Maybe less gets in the bloodstream...although I think not too much gets absorbed with Cortifoam. Maybe you can use it w.out skin thinning issue?

Cortifoam is not an enema & I'm surprised you read that somewhere because to my knowledge that is incorrect. It does not reach up as far as an enema does, but slightly more than the canasa suppository does. I also wish there were more rectal options such as a foam mesalamine.

You are right that it doesn't reach up as far as the liquid enemas, however I don't know why but I am pretty sure they still consider it an enema. It reaches rectum, but higher up than a suppository. Either way, semantics. More options equals good.

Well if some sources are considering it an enema, guess I can't say anymore that I've never done any enemas lol.

Maybe it's more of the same but if it works for someone, i like it. More options are always good.
