Building pc's over the years as a hobby there is no justification for me to spend that much on a laptop. I just don't have disposable income to spend on that type of thing. My 6 year old laptop just crapped out several months ago so I was in same boat. I bought a used (pretty much new) one off ebay for $280 lol. Intel i5 4th gen, 8gb... 17" blag blah... with win7 after I wiped 8 off it. PC's are only as stable as their user. If you don't do basic simple things to keep it smooth then it's going to run slow.

So, I spent under $300 for what steve up top priced at $1300.

I do lots of photoshop and video rendering and it handles it fine. If it can handle that load what more could I need. I can spend that extra $1000 on kids for Christmas.

Let me sum it up, there is a lot of opinion on whether a pc or a mac is better, and I think it mostly comes down to preference. Same as do you like Ford or Toyota cars better? Some are insistent that one is better over the others, call it brand-loyalty lol. And for those of us who cannot justify the cost of the more pricey apples, we just stick with our cheapos lol (I hear you NCOT, Dr-A, and others).

So, Thoreau, my suggestion is try a mac and pc out and buy whichever you like best, especially if the cost difference is not an object. There's certainly enough on both sides who've sworn to one or the other being better lol.

Yeah this is like canon vs nikon or oh so many things that people get worked up over. (i am an apple and Nikon man). It comes down to trying them both and seeing which one feels better to you, not ego or what people insist on saying. They are different and that's what makes this a wonderful world-- we all have different likes/dislikes in the look and feel of technology.
