Stick with the azathioprine?

I'm hopefully about to start a trial for Simponi/golimumab, and the research nurse said it's 'up to me' if I want to stay on azathioprine at the same time. She was happy for me to stop it if I wanted. From my reading on here I thought it was common practice to be on an immunosupressant when you're on a biologic to decrease the chances of developing antibodies, so I'm wondering why she said it was fine for me to stop the aza. Maybe that only applies to Remicade?

If it's all the same, I'd rather stop the azathioprine - it's given me a horrible load of side effects and no longer helps my colitis. But if the antibody thing still applies I'll obviously want to stay on it.

I have my screening visit next Friday, and if I pass all the criteria I'll be able to begin injections within the week.

I stopped 6mp recently. I figured, I was taking it and having flare up symptoms regardless, so why bother? Not sure stoping was the best idea though, I had a really tough time getting to the right dose. If I had to go through all that again, I don't know how I would find the time... I guess it is up to you and I don't think it's a bad idea to stay on to keep from creating antibodies but I understand the desire to want to minimize the routine and drugs. I am so sick of taking so many pills... I didn't really have side effects, I was on a very low dose so for me, that wasn't a factor. If I had them, I'd probably really want to stop, especially if I wasn't sure it was doing anything positive. Good luck with simponi.

I think I might as well just stay on it. But the thing is I'm getting really scared because I don't think I'm that bad anymore, not bad enough to warrant biologics at any rate... I was truly at the end of my tether a month ago, but things are being controlled with the steroid enemas now and I feel okay, and I'm terrified about going on Simponi without being sick enough for it :(( How sick do you have to be before biologics are given? :(

Biologics arent always given based on disease severity. You have have a mild-moderate disease but if its refractive to all treatments, biologics are indicated
