Hello everyone, it's been a long time since I've visited. So long I just made a new user name because I have no idea what my other login info was. Thankfully, I've been doing pretty good with my UC. However, my Lialda seems to not be working as well as it once did. I've been on it for 3-4 years. My trigger for flares seems to always be stress. And it's happened again. DH is having major back surgery tomorrow, work stress got amped waaay up, my mom lost her husband at Christmas and I always worry about her being depressed, then one night a couple of weeks ago I got a call that her burglar alarm had been activated and police were in route and they could not contact her. I almost immediately went to the toilet and stayed for an hour. Then I had one of the worst periods I've had in a very long time. And then the other morning I awoke to the "grumblings" in my colon that always start a few days prior to the mucus which is then followed by blood. I just so happened to be going to my regular md for a check up and she wrote me the script for pred that I always take to knock the flare out. Thank the Lord for her, because He knows I do not have time to wait for an apt with my GI. Now, I've tried 3 ssri's for stress and they work great for that except they also apparently block the absorption of my lialda AND cause me to start a non stop period unless I stop the med. And I do not typically have period issues, ever. What I've mentioned here is the most of them in my life. So I take Wellbutrin but that doesn't keep the stress down enough apparently. So the gave me Xanax to take on "those days". Which I would've taken daily for the past 2 weeks if I had followed that advice and then dealt with having to get off of it......so I didn't . I do take it when I know I really need it but don't want to develop a dependency. My question is, what other oral maintenance meds are out there? I started out on colozal but when they stopped making the name brand the generic did what lialda is doing now, not working as well. So I'm reluctant to go back on that. Would asacol be the same as lialda? I'm hoping if I do a different med, then I can take the ssri that worked so well. I honestly don't get into costly, time consuming natural remedies. I like lielda bc its 2 pills once daily and it worked. But now it may not work as well. I've had 3 flares start up on it all due to stress. So, what are your experiences with the oral meds you've taken? Thanks
