What put you into remission before? Have you taken any other UC meds? I can't help but think that your allergy to rubber is more in your head than reality. I mean, even if you were allergic, what's the worst that can happen? I seriously doubt that watery diarrhea would be a death sentence. I know you haven't posted much here but you're talking to a group where many of us have suffered lots and lots of bleeding and we're all still alive. Many have had to go to the hospital just from the bleeding of the disease itself, not usually due to a "clean out". You can take both of the probiotics you mentioned at once but you might want to give some thought into moving up to bigger guns, such as VSL#3. Most of the regular store bought probiotics are woefully inadequate for UC. You should really be taking ones with at least 50 billion CFU's or more. So far your post looks like there has been a massive absence of the meds usually used in IBD, both oral and rectal.

My rubber allergy is not in my head as I was tested when I started swelling up badly from latex and non latex bandaids and gloves. I am allergic to Carba Mix which is in synthetic rubber and natural rubber. Allergist said allergy on mucous membranes would be more severe and I hate the thought of my insides swelling up.

My first bout was lots of mucous and blood and was put on Azulfadine which I became allergic to after much use. Second bout a few years later was bad watery diarrehea and then nothing but pure blood pouring out of my rectum every time I urinated for 8 hours -- was put on very heavy does of Prednisone for that and was very sick for months colitis wise. Was on that for over a year and then got severe osteoporosis. In the meantime because of excessive use of Cortememas and proctocort for the fissure I became allergic to that class of cortisone. Had to go for testing for that because the doc did not believe it. However, the results of the testing do not lie. They tried topical and oral. By that time my Crohns colitis was in remission and Librium and Librax has kept me that way ever since although I do now have inflammation in the lower rectal area besides the fissure and papilla.

Was told by GI doc who retired to avoid diarrehea lol. So far I have avoided the stomach bug, etc.and now he is retired so what the new doc thinks???? Hard to say. Can't help it if I become allergic to meds after taking them for a while. My oncologist says it is due to the fact I was one of those experimental kids back in the early 1940's and xrays and radialtion was the new "cure" and they used unmeasured cobalt back then to shrink my thymus gland which actually eliminated it completely and my immune system is all whacked up.

Sorry if you think I am not sick enough to be posting here.but since I have had 2 bouts and the 2nd was severe, I am not considered "cured" and who knows if another would hit me. I presume I would have to take a biologic then which the docs want to avoid because of my immune system problem.

As an add on - I am allergic to Asacol, Rowasa enema, etc. also so prayer, Librium and Librax are all I was left with. Hopefully the come up with a new one that does not affect the immune system. New GI doc will not let me try LDN.

so gar, you think rubber allergies are made up or worser yet, a scam perpetrated by the ??????? folks trying to make life miserable for ??????

Thank you all for your posts and suggestions.

I have to check with the allergist regarding the silicone rubber and see if any scopes have that in the bends and initial part.

I will look into the other suggestions too.

Had to see my cardiologist today and told him about my recurrent fissure and the "new" enlarged, inflamed papilla (one thing on the right side and one thing on the left) and he said to check with the new GI about trying nitroglycerin cream to try to help heal it. After 2 infections over the years in that fissure I do not want another one and before he left, my old GI doc said the fissure is just above where I can reach so can not tell myself if it is swollen which would indicate start of infection. Both times before I just figured the pain was fissure pain and then I ended up with the infection spreading to the tissues in the front and I was a mess. Of course, I am allergic also now over time to antibiotics - all except the Keflex family and the Levaquin family and the allergist said not to use them unless I absolutely have no choice as the same thing will happen with them at some point.
