how about colazol brand name

I am currently on balsalazide dissodium (general colazal) and was wondering if I was to ask for doctor to prescirbe the colazal brand name if you think it might make a difference in my condition. I am currently using hydrocortisone enemas and noticed that I have improved and also balsalazide 9 pills a day, but this morning after not using the canasa suppository yesterday I had some bright red blood, so I thinking that its pretty low in colon. I had formed stool also. So I popped a canasa in this am, but was wondering if others think that its worth the $200 a month for the brand name colazal, maybe try for a few months and see what happens?

One of the generics is the brandname. It is Watson. It is what is called a approved generic I think. Marked with CZ just like the brandname but the capsule is a slightly different shade of the same color. Because colozal doesn't use a coating and has one active ingredient, the chances of the brandname working better are pretty small. Would be a problem with a inactive ingredient like a filler causing you a problem not a problem of strength

I have taken all the generics and the brandname. Never noticed a thing. Rectal bleeding can be very stubborn. Neither colozal or asacol will stop it for me. Have to use rowasa or canasa for several months while in full remission. Using a higher dosage pill like asacol HD might help. Colazal delivers about 2.4 grams mesalamine just like the old asacol dosage. Asacol HD is 4.8 gr

As far as I know, it is just because asacol hd went through clinical trials. I did find out that sodium is actually a concern with Colazal. 9 pills have about 700 mg sodium. Could be why I haven't heard of doctors off labeling higher dosages. Giazo(the larger brandname balsalazide pill) is actually a lower dosage. Maybe just ask your doctor?

before paying for the brand of a 9 pill a day 5asa, I would put the money towards an extended release like Lialda. With the discount card and insurance (even the higher co-pay for brand) it might be about the same cost.

thanks old hat, and I don't need any more hair loss as I lost quite a bit on asacol and asacol hd, although I would have continued it if asacol hd helped, but I also thought liaida was for more of entire colon being affected than just for sigmoid and rectum inflammation. I am going to see what doctor says when I see him again in December, seems like I see him every 2 months now, great.

I will also maybe ask about Sulfasalazine, as it seems that some people who can tolerate it have good results.
