Pentasa 4x1g (pills) / once a day!?

Hi everyone,

I have a new GI and I started a new treatment : salofalk enema 4g (this is fine) and I'm taking "Pentasa 4 x 1g (pills) once a day". I was on asacol 2 x 800mg... I'm on a flare up since 2 years so I'm "pretty excited" to try this new treatment but 4 new pills everyday at the same time is intense! And my pharmacy had to order them because my GI insisted for the 1g and didn't want me to take the 8x500mg.

So I would like to know if someone is taking 4 x 1g of Pentasa and if the results are good!?

Max dose of oral mesalamine is 4.8 grams per day, so you are not exceeding the max dose. I'm a little surprised that he didn't try 6 Asacol per day first before changing to Pentasa. I'm taking 2 500mg pills, twice per day. I think it works better than Asacol but everyone is different. What is your current condition?

I was on Asacol on and off for 15 years and it used to work well, but in the last 2 years, I took my Asacol correctly and a lot of time more than 2x800mg/day, and the Salofalk suppository every 2 nights, but the symptoms never stopped : cramps, blood every morning, bloating...I am very sensitive to a lot of food now, and supplements also, for example, I am reacting badly to a lot of multivitamins, even omega3, digestive enzyme, glutamine...I can't drink hot water with lemon, I can’t eat too much greens and fruits, etc.
This is why my new GI wanted to try the Pentasa, and the enema Salofalk are working so much better than the suppository (the suppository used to work amazing 10 years ago but not anymore). One of my problem is when I sleep with my bf I don't want to use the enema so I am not consistent but the enemas are the best and the results are amazing - but as soon as I stop for a couple of days the symptoms are back – but I never stop the pills - I can't be in a full remission...

I've been on four grams for a couple of years now. Once a day dosage is weird. I split my into four.

Songlady (former poster) was on 6.4 grams of Asacol per day for many years so you aren't at the max dose, but four grams at a shot seems high IMO

I had 2 Lialda 2x daily, but got problems sleeping at night and restless leg pain in bed. We changed to 3 pills all in the morning, and slowly but steady I got mostly controlled.

but lialda's mmx sponge may be more suited to once daily dosing. Still, I don't think it is a problem

was there any discussion about why once daily was preferred over 2x? did you have any sleep problems or something?
