Erythema Nodosum

Hi guys,

I have a j-pouch now so I don't really frequent these forums anymore, but something occurred to me recently (as a result of an immunology course that I'm taking).

I began presenting ulcerative colitis symptoms around the age of 18, and I was diagnosed a couple years later (nobody knew that I was sick for almost 2 years). However, something that I had forgotten about was that around the age of 16/17 I would frequently develop big red bumps on my legs, mainly on my shins. I had self-diagnosed myself (yes, I was a stubborn teenager and refused to tell anybody or go to the doctor because I was embarrassed) with erythema nodosum, which is an inflammatory condition. I'm now 100% certain that's what it was.

Do you guys think the two are connected, and maybe the erythema nodosum was kind of like a warning sign? Has anyone else had erythema nodosum prior to developing ulcerative colitis? I'm just curious.

yup, i experienced something similar on my legs prior to my dx - when my brain starts working again, i will attempt to figure out if it was a precursor or a cause of my uc -

i continued to have skin issues during most of my uc days, but it also affected my arms too, with the exception being whilst I was on pred, until I finally gave up all grain consumption - now it's a thing of the past -
