Just as an FYI - given all the recent FDA warnings and studies coming out on fluoroquinolone antibiotics, I would advise against cipro or levaquin unless your life is on the line. It is a drug that can have permanent ramifications on your health and body.
There was a
recent study that followed cipro users over time and a remarkably high number of them developed neuropathy:
Results: We identified 6,226 cases and 24,904 controls. Current users of FQs were at a higher risk of developing PN (RR = 1.83, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.49–2.27). Current new users had the highest risk (RR = 2.07, 95% CI 1.56–2.74). No risk was observed for current users of finasteride (RR = 1.21, 95% CI 0.97–1.51).This study also confirms my personal experience since I experienced the neuropathy and lived with the fear of tendon rupture for at least a year after discontinuation of the drug. It is not something I'd like to go through again. In fact, I would probably choose death over it.
I think very few antibiotics are safe for
anyone. Anti-fungals are a different story. We're beginning to see a surge in autoimmunity and other mystery illnesses because many doctors are wrongly prescribing these courses for simple things that go away with time.
Sorry for my rant, but I'm still bitter over what happened.
