So I've been on remicade for over a year now and it has been a godsend. Recently though I've been having some blood with my stool. I say it that way because it's not bloody stool (ie blood on the stool) it's blood that comes after I poop. Not a lot though.

Then just an hour ago I got up to go to bed and had some cramping. It still hasn't gone away. It kinda feels like air is trapped. I had an instance before I was diagnosed where I had an air pocket form in my colon (no idea how and I forgot to ask) so the stool was pushing on it and causing me pain. That's what it feels like now. Not my flare cramps. At least I hope not.

I see my GI tomorrow actually and I know he wants to do another colonoscopy this month. I just hope it's not the remicade wearing off. Has anyone had remicade work for just a year and then stop? If this is the case I don't know what other options I have.

Also, if I lay on my right side I can't feel the cramping. If I move at all it's there and if I try to lay on my back or my left side it's painful. Weird?

You may be developing antibodies to the Remicade. They usually have you on Imuran (AZA) or 6mp so that does not happen.

No cramps this morning.

My doctor just wanted the remicade because he didn't want my body to reject something and not know what it was.

Well, it looks like your doctor got their wish because it looks like your body is rejecting the Remicade.

I wouldn't panic just because you saw a little blood. Ask your GI about this when you see him/her tomorrow. Remicade can loose effectiveness over time due to either worsening disease or antibody build up. If that is happening to you, then you can get remicade infusions pushed closer together (I.e. every 6 weeks) and or the dosage of remicade increased (I.e. from 5 to 10mgs per kilogram). An anser ifx blood test by Prometheus labs can check the levels of remicade a few days before your next infusion and whether antibodies are present. Ask if it is warranted with your current symptoms. Gary- Not everyone gets something with remicade. Remicade has worked wonders for me all by itself. I've heard people get Benadryl with it or other meds like you have mentioned, but not everyone. I wouldn't say my body is rejecting the remicade. Seeing as blood is my only symptom I'll gladly take it. I was in so much pain a year ago this is nothing. Also I could have internal hemorrhoids that causes the bleeding. Everyone is different. To say I should be getting 6mp with my remicade is a generalization that may not apply to everyone.

Thanks iPoop I'm going to mention it to him when I go. I don't think I'm quite ready to up the dosage yet because other than blood I'm feeling great. Once I have another colonoscopy we'll have a better idea of what's going on too.
