Colonoscopy with no prep?

I have a colonoscopy scheduled for Wednesday morning @ 11am. I got a call from my GI today saying that he doesn't want me to take the bowel prep he gave me (Picolax), as I'm having an acute flare and he doesn't want to overwork my bowels. He was hoping that the flare would have subsided slightly by now after being on Steroids for three weeks, but it's just as bad.
I was supposed to be having a full colonoscopy to see how far round the inflammation goes, but I think my GI is now just going in far enough to take biopsies. They may also give me an enema on the day to clear my bowels beforehand.
My Q is, do I still need to follow the original prep diet? If so, when would I need to stop eating? I have tablets that I take in the evenings (16 of them) and 8 prednisolone to take in the mornings, so what do i do about those? Can I still take the pred on the morning of the procedure with no food?
Sorry if these are all really obvious Q's, but I've only ever had a sigmoid before. Thank you!

I think you should call your GI's office back and get your questions clarified by them (that's what I would do) every GI is different so you might be getting incorrect advice from support boards...
I too had a GI that did a sigmoidoscopy on me without prepping at his request, something about how he wanted to see how my stool looked inside my colon (I thought it was really wierd) I also thought what a waist of time cuz how could he see the walls of my GI tract and where all the inflammation was but he told me after the procedure that he saw everything fine but didn't elaborate much more than saying my disease was still active (I have crohn's colitis--CD affecting my colon).

But under your circumstances I would call them back to get clarification...good luck with your scope tomorrow...glad you don't have to prep but getting scoped (especially while awake) really sucks.

it does make sense to follow the diet and clear out as much as possible. they will likely go as far as they are able to see well. may as well get your money's worth for the scoping.
