Correct me if I'm wrong but I've been told by many people, doctors and patients alike, after having a j pouch surgery because of ulcerative colitis, the chances of having pouchitis in the future is nearly 50%. Pouchitis is just like having UC only it can be worse it some instances from what I'm told because theres more incontinentcy that what you typically see with uc. Sometimes people get pouchitis immediately, sometimes they don't get it until 20 years later. But in some cases of pouchitis, where its very severe, the pouch has to come out in order for her to be healthy again and she will have to wear a bag. But if that happens, don't you dare leave her for that reason alone. She is a human being regardless and shes been through hell. I'm going through hell right now and I dont want to do this again, thats why I'm getting the permanent ileostomy and I'm going to wear a bag for the rest of my life because I don't want to get pouchitis and go through this all over again.
