Painful skin bumps - Azathioprine side effect, or am I just getting old?

I'm 32 years old. I've been getting red sores on my butt for several years, starting a couple years after I began taking Azathioprine about 8 years ago.

They look like zits but they're more painful if you push on them, and they take a long time to go away. They would appear underneath where my wallet normally was, under my right back pocket, so I moved my wallet, and the problem reduced but they're still coming and going.

I see that bumps and sores can be a side effect of Azathioprine - if this is so, what can you do about them? I've tried putting astringent on them and it doesn't seem to do much.

Can they be boils? I used to get boils frequently but I wasn't on an immune suppressor at the time. They resembled zits but much more painful like yours. I would bring it to a head with warm compresses and when it opened, drain them and keep them covered. Sometimes I would use an antibiotic cream. But it had to be a certain one - other ones can promote staph multiplication - but I can't remember which one it was.

But perhaps you should have a doc look at them.

They can also be ingrown hairs.

It would be best that you get to a dermatologist who can do a swab to let you know if it's infection or not.

It could be folliculitis, allergy, boils, etc. Maybe try to put antibiotic on it rather than astringent.

What about your washing detergent? what are you using and do you use fabric softener sheets?
