Yes, it goes away, but it is one of the worst things about UC, and as others have pointed out, one of the most difficult symptoms to control. Though 5ASA's don't work as well as they used to for me, I do find that Canasa supps still do the trick. I have to be careful because I swear using the supps too often (say, more than five days in a row) causes its own irritation that feels an awful lot like tenesmus. But after a lot of trial and error I am fairly confident that a schedule of one Canasa every three or four days keeps the Tenesmus at bay. Don't give up!
