Resistant starch eater, how do you eat it?

I just mix it in water and quickly gulp it down, but want to feed this to 6.5 YO DS, who as it is very picky eating foodstuff. Capsules aren't going to cut it as I don't have time to keep filling up so many capsules. He would need 10 or so capsules every time.

Anyone has a better idea?

Tiger nuts and potato salad are pretty tasty. If you do grains, rice or taipoca pudding with green banana pieces on top is nother high rs meal. The rs powders have no taste so just mixing with juice or a smoothie should work.

I think Ive heard of people adding it to a smoothie? It might be a good way to hide the taste. That being said, the fibre in the smoothie may make it difficult to tolerate

Smoothies would be a good way to disguise the grit for sure. I also eat cold potatoes, navy beans and pretty much any other bean I have in the house.

I think it was Imagardner who mentioned something about eating cold french fries. Never even thought of that. There are many ways to get resistant starch, one being cold potatoes (such as potato salad) or rices or pasta and even green bananas or certain kinds of beans. You can either do RS the easy way or the hard way. It doesn't have to be the hard way.

Does the RS reform after it is heated (i.e. when you make rice or cook french fries) or is it permanently destroyed?

marauder, no. raw sources have much higher RS contents than cooked sources.

I don't eat ffries cold, uh-uh, they don't survive long enough to get cold haha.

French fries are very high in RS and the article said nothing about eating them cold. My gut feels happy almost immediately after French fries. You could also make a cold potato soup (vichyssoise) and I also like mashed potatoes (yes warm). My gut does not seem to be a stickler for cold potatoes but potato salad is very nice with mayo.

Why not enjoy the food instead of making it into medicine? If you have trouble eating potatoes then add the potato starch to almost any liquid. I find it almost undetectable unless you add too much. I prefer real food however.

If french fries are good enough for imagardener2, then they're good enough for me. Hot french fries with a sprinkling of salt are one of my favourite foods. None of that oven chip crap, though: they've got to come from a deep-fat fryer and made from real potatoes.

Oh, fryer potatoes sound so good. I can't eat them anymore.....I bake mine in the oven with a little olive oil, salt and pepper.

French fries have always been one of my more well-tolerated foods, for some reason :-/

The meal I had tonight - cheesy cannelloni with minced meat - is proving to be rather indigestible. It was nice, but think I'd rather have had your home-made chips with a bit of olive oil.

And I'd like to add that McDonald's fries are totally OK by my gut. heresy! I will be thrown out of the organic club (yes I eat organic food as much as possible, just bought organic potatoes for the first time for home use).

Here's my little secret: I always order my fries "with no salt" because they have to make them fresh/hot not sitting around sadly waiting. The next batch out of the fryer has my name on it, before salting the rest of the batch. Hot fries are the stuff of dreams. And then I put my own salt on in the car haha, way less than they put on but a little salt is perfect.

Ok. I think the general consenus here then is that eating french fries will put us into remission, particularly those from McDonalds. Bring em on! I'm willing to give it a try.

In the UK, they have two ingredients. Three, if you count dextrose at the start of the potato screen.

@imagardener2 - Sorry, just saw your post! Too busy googling again <_<. I've often thought about doing something like but I'm too fry-tened to. (I'm here all night, folks.) Most of the time I do get fresh fries, but if I get a cold batch, I will take them back and ask for a new lot: their food isn't that cheap and I'm not a rich person, to put it mildly.

I stopped RS because I get the same SCFA Butyrate healing benefit with no calories from P-seed powder but beans are good source of iron etc.

2-3 times per day before meals 1-heaping scoop P-seed powder + 2 scoups Miridian Qing Dai + VSL3DS on the first shot and I end up with perfect floaters unless I binge on carbs for 12-24 hours forward. If I eat clean, eggs boiled chicken, low fat cheese everything works but I have to keep up the regimen.

But seriously, I find that when i eat fries, the urgency goes up and they are not fully digested, but I feel empty after I go. Very satisfying to say the least : p

this is where i read it, ncot. there's beef, soy, corn, wheat, milk, and god knows what else in those things. totally unnecessary. they are delicious though. i used to love getting the mushy ones! i'd save them for last and eat the crunchy ones first haha

Anything battered or fried probably has trans fats which raise your bad cholesterol while increasing inflammation and lowering the good cholesterol that protects us against heart disease.

Supposedly McDs cut back on trans fat in their fries but I noticed my blood lipid levels get worse when I eat fries (and burgers) from McDonalds.

There are many good healthy starch alternatives out there.

For a long time, I took my 4 tablespoons of potato starch in applesauce with a lot of cinnamon. The cinnamon masks the taste well (it isn't that bad anyway). I always used Ceylon cinnamon which, unlike regular cinnamon, is not dangerous to the liver.

Now I take the 4 TBSP in a morning smoothie made with Starbucks frappucino, a banana, a coffee ice cube, and a squeeze of chocolate syrup. The syrup is the trick to getting rid of the chalky taste.

I've also tried it in chocolate pudding and Yoplait yogurt. If it's only a tablespoon, it's fine but more than that affects the taste.

I've also put 2-3 TBSP in seltzer water. The fizziness makes it very hard to detect.

Yes, that is what probably sets us apart from the apes. This is resistant starch type 3, but I doubt deep drying gives you that effect, so the french fries are definitely out. Oven baked yes, deep-fried No.

Thanks for the ideas. I will have to see which works. Hiding it in a smoothie hasn't worked that well so far, because you can still feel it.

Hey guys -

Whole foods has these awesome packaged french fries in the frozen foods section. They are made by brand 365. Very affordable - 2.99 for organic and 1.99 for non-organic. I would go for the organic since canola oil is in it.

And it doesn't have 19 ingredients... I'm having a hard time figuring out why a simple recipe would need that many ingredients. Without looking at it, I'm guessing the yoga mat ingredient is in it too... just because we want to make our food the least healthiest in the world for some reason.

I think what we are trying to say is that you can get plenty of RS by eating (good) foods instead of gulping down a bunch of grainy awful tasting powder that you have to try covering up with some process. But, to each his own. I guess I'm somewhat of a hypocrite to some extent because I would rather down certain supplements in a capsule and be done with it rather than trying to incorporate them into a diet.
