canasa

What side-effects have you all experienced with Canasa? Lately I have been having stools with really dark spots (TMI sorry). I know my doctor mentioned before that dark or tarry looking stools could indicate bleeding further up in the digestive tract. But I know a lot of people say Canasa can stain things as well? Does anyone else have this side-effect with Canasa? Is it something I should bring up in my next drs. appt?

I've never had dark spots in my poop from the suppositories. My first poop after use sometimes has white in it, oily looking liquid, and lots of gas the morning after use, and gas with oily stuff expelling (I.e., always wear a panty liner strategically placed under your butt-lesson learned).

Maybe the black is blood, like you suggested, and unrelated to the suppository.

Another quick questions..are you all JUST on canasa or do you have it paired with an oral mesalamine as well?

I haven't been responding very well to the canasa but my doctor suggested that i just stay on it for another three months and see if it helps then (not sure i understand her theory but whatever). she did mention another option was pairing it with an oral medicine.

and also..when you're not having a flare do you take a maintenance medication? my gi also suggested that i try going without a maintenance medication for awhile, but everyone ive talked to strongly suggested against that.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I don't trust my GI. I'm actually in the process of finding a new one.
