Mesalamine

Over the course of the last few years, I have been taking four lialda tablets per day. However, as a result of recent issues and my struggle to maintain remission after a bad flare, my GI has instructed me to take an additional three apriso capsules with the four lialda tablets every morning. Because I am still symptomatic, I am currently taking four lialda pills, three apriso, and an enema nightly (starting to taper those soon). This is on top of remicade infusions every 6 weeks. Regardless of the remicade, does anyone else think that much mesalamine is a bit excessive? I believe I have read on numerous occasions that any form of oral dosage over 4.8g (which I get from the lialda) is rendered useless. Any input would help. Thanks

It is possible the thought is to get at two different areas with the two different pills. I would have thought to use only 2 Lialda with the other pills, but as long as your kidneys are monitored, it should be safe.
