Fruitgirl: I realize that that is the accepted knowledge regarding Apriso. Maybe I'm just really thick but that logic escapes me somehow. Basically, the delivery system of the oral 5ASA's is the coating covering the mesalamine and it's main function is to dissolve at a certain point in your system where the mesalamine inside is released. Different brands have different delivery systems and one dissolves in one area while another brand dissolves in a slightly different area. Since we're all different, the exact point where one delivery system releases isn't necessarily the same exact spot in everyone. Anyway, once the coated delivery system dissolves all that is left is the active ingredient mesalamine and my brain has a hard time accepting that 1.5 grams of mesalamine is the same as 4.8 grams of mesalamine. Since the coated delivery system is now gone I don't see any mechanism whereby 1.5 grams of mesalamine is magically transformed into 4.8 grams. Now I don't deny that Apriso works in some but using my thinking it is basically a maintenance dose, which in some people, such as yourself, is sufficient to do the trick. In others who experience worse conditions where a maintenance dose is not sufficient, it is my opinion that Apriso is just not good enough to do the trick. These are of course, just my opinions.
