Gonk, how long did it take for you to reach full remission? What was your starting dose? Did your doctor have to increase it for you to see full remission? Im currently on 50mg exactly two months this weekend not full remission yet

I started the 6mp at 50mg. At the time, I was also started prednisone to get me out of the flair I was battling. To keep the flair at bay, I then went on Uceris to bridge the gap to when the 6mp took hold. So that was around 4 months total and then another month or two to where I really felt I was completely symptom free and in remission. Oh, and somewhere in there, my dosage was upped to 75mg - sorry, not sure if it was after 2 months or 4 months or what. And now it's been a year that I have been in remission.

Interestingly, I just today saw my GI for a well visit. He brought up - again - that there is the increased risk of lymphoma with 6mp. He said that in light of more recent studies supporting that risk, the current thinking is that if the patient can get 5 years of full remission on 6mp - no blips or symptoms of any kind - then you stop taking the 6mp and see if the mesalamine (Lialda in my case) can continue to keep you in remission. So that was interesting - I hope I make it 5 years in remission and have to make that decision!

Of course 6mp has a possibility of nausea as a side effect, how can your gastroenterologist deny it? about 10 percent of patients experience it, according to the following link (although the disage cited is 2mgs per kilogram which is slightly higher than the average uc disage of 1.0 to 1.5 mgs per kilogram). he also said my blood work can prove to him if the nausea is due to the 6mp causing an issue..he said that is the beauty of this drug

Like two weeks into it. GI said unrelated but I don't rly believe him

I was on 6mp for quite a while. I never experienced nausea. Everyone is different. Good luck with it.

I know so what should i do? Its been over a month dealing with it .it sits in my throat going crazy

Im going to tomorrow. Also going to see my regular doctor tomorrow because my GI refuses to believe me. Really not happy with him right now

What is LPR or GERD? Could be it's my post nasal drip. Taking Claritin and nose spray at the moment. I'd say it helps somewhat. I also read to drink peppermint tea which I do too.

Update: said to see my ENT because they are best at these things. The nausea is really slight today if at all. Hoping the Claritin and nose spray helps remove it for good and that it's not the 6mp. Either way made an appointment with my ENT for Wednesday. So well see then.

Hi DMC! Thanks for asking. I'm the end I have a post nasal drip! ENT said he sees the mucous in the back of my throat dripping down which is what was causing the nausea. So currently taking Claritin, nose spray and doing a sinus rinse. Soooo much better. Also he had me remove chocolate and dairy which makes it worse. He was right. So much better now. As for UC...I'm learning that I can't tolerate vegetables. They make my urgency much worse. I still have it though. Some days I totally forget about it and other days when I eat wrong foods I suffer. Then again it's a little over two months since began 6mp. Waiting for it to be complete three months before we up the dose I guess.
How's it going by you? Feeling better? Noticing improvement?
