My boyfriend and I are thinking about
backpacking indonesia this summer and I am nervous about
the health risks over there especially for someone with uc.. Have any of you done any traveling in Asia with UC? We'd have to get typhoid vaccines.. Do vaccines trigger flares? Advice would be appreciated!

What is your current condition and what meds are you on? It is unlikely that a vaccine would trigger a flare but as far as health risks in Indonesia go I wouldn't make any bets.

Not currently flaring.. Last flare ended about
a month ago and lasted over a year. Off all meds except for immuran.

I would't worry about
the vaccines but a change in diet or even just water could wreck havoc on your system. Try your best to eat and drink exactly how you do now.

There's no evidence to suggest that vaccines trigger flares. I got an MMR vaccine a week and a half ago because my titers were low, and I am fine. However because you are on Imuran, it's recommended that you do not get any live attenuated virus vaccines.

No live vaccines if you are in immunosuppressive medications for uc (that is, 6mp, Imuran, aza, remicade, simponi, or humira). Otherwise, you are fine. Sounds like a fun trip, enjoy!
