Serenity, do you know if her left side hurt too? It bothers me once in a while. And weird twisting pains in other places. I'm so glad I have the consultation tomorrow. Did she get surgery at the ER or wait?

Well the first time she went to the ER and they eventually diagnosed her, she was initially going to wait. Then she got really bad again and had to go to the ER again, they admitted her and did the surgery right away because they said she could not wait any longer.

I don't know about left side pain or weird twisting pains... I can email her and ask.

I can't wait until my appointment tomorrow. I've never been so excited to see a doctor in my life.

Well here is the email I got back from my friend:

My pain was mainly in the center – kind of under your sternum. When it got going it was basically everywhere – kind of radiating out. It doesn’t matter what you do nothing makes it stop and you just want to curl up in a ball, but you can’t lie down because that makes it a million times worse so you end up pacing. They say it is worse if you eat something with fat in it – maybe like 4 – 8 hours after you eat it? I know that if I ate something with fat it was way worse than if I ate something like dry toast. I don’t know about the weird twisting pain in other places – it depends where the other places are. When it was in full blown pain attack it was like your whole middle was being squeezed and twisted. The pain for me was usually for at most 4 hours and then it would go away until I ate again.

Haha. I definitely have the sternum thing. And my chest. Those I think are the worst parts.

I haven't eaten any fat in 2 days. And I WISH mine only lasted for four hours!! It's nonstop, at least in my chest. It's quite bad. And yes, the laying down ugh. So much worse. I slept sitting up last night.

Do you think they'll speed up the process if I show up in my sweatpants with cornflake crumbs in my hair? I think this look will really convey my desperation well.

I can't tell you how many times I've almost cried. Along with feeling giddy. This chest pain causes a roller coaster of emotions. That includes near panic lol

Probably sugary foods don't help. Most of what I can find with no fat has sugar :(

I hope they schedule it SOON!

I haven't slept in my bed in days. I can't lay down, I just want to cuddle. My bf has been super patient. I started crying the other day because I felt bad my super clingy cat can't squish me and sleep on my belly!

Already done. They're gonna call me to schedule the surgery. No one can seem to explain the chest pain I'm having. Should I call my regular doctor?? Idk. It feels like costo a bit like I said before. So I wonder if I AM getting inflammation elsewhere.

He said norco is usually what they give after the surgery but because of my headaches they'll try to avoid it. Just let it end ugh!

Narcotic pain meds give me headaches too as well as nausea and a bp drop. I found that if I either take Zofran or an anti-histamine that it helps curb those side effects.

Have IQ's suddenly dropped in the last 50 years.
My chest pain was exquisite.
Your gall bladder will let you know, in no uncertain terms that there is a problem

Be thank full that today it can be done via lapro, my buddy had in done about 20 years ago via open surgery,

6 or so week recovery,where I was sent home the next day.

Sherry I'll keep that in mind if I need it. I'd never had a headache from Vicodin so I wasn't expecting it. What's Zofran?

Haha Mike. It's like no one can explain it and no one seems concerned. It's like an achey weight. Sometimes my armpits hurt. I don't care about scars but the quick recovery will be nice.

I agree with OM, I don't get how they cannot explain the chest pain. Well I hope your surgery is scheduled soon, you can't be dealing with all this for much longer.

Probably gritting your teeth from torso pain. Hang in there! / Old Hat (34 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Well my chest calmed down, and I made some lentil soup and basmati rice for dinner so I was actually full, I took a nap, ate more lentils (spicy too so good for pain!) and then I slept for TEN HOURS. Ahhhhh :)

EDIT: Surgery on Monday!

Yes I think I can! My chest really feels a lot better (I took a bunch of ibuprofen yesterday-no more now). I still have a killer headache but if things stay like this I can get some rest and be way more calm for the surgery. And I just got a time!

Back in 2007 I saw a GI specialist due to severe gas pains and a hiatal hernia. They said the gas pains were from my gallbladder and it must come out. I had the surgery along with the hiatal hernia repair and guess what?? I still suffer from the same symptoms. (Pain in the middle that doubled me over) In addition, I added more to my plate as my body does not break down fats as well due to not having my gallbladder. You will be on a restricted diet for a while and even after you heal, you may always have to be on a diet or suffer the consequences. EVERY time I went out to eat or ate greasy foods it was an instant bathroom trip. Made going out quite entertaining.... at my expense. They wanted to put me on questran powder to bulk me up as I had only diarrhea and nothing else. The side effects freaked me out. I was ok taking Imodium quite a bit though. This went on for about five years then slowed down for about a year for the first time!! Until I developed UC last year and to hell with it all I'm just going to have to live this life... : ) Just wanted you to hear my experience. It may help, or it may make for a crappy time: )

Sorry to hear that! Hopefully I don't end up the same way. I know some people on here have tried digestive enzymes after having it removed and had some luck. I do plan on eating low fat for quite a while (if not forever, depending). Did you get the diarrhea while you still had your gallbladder? I read some people do. Thanks for commenting.

I don't think I did have diarrhea until after it was removed. And then ALL the time. I think everything was normal except the extreme acid reflux due to hernia and the severe gas pain due to ???? Good times!

I know it shouldn't be a big deal but I can't help it... sad

Also they told me I have to take my nipple piercings out. Unfortunately I've read the centers can begin closing within half an hour-a few hours and have to be stretched to replace the jewelry. I bought some non-metal barbells...think they'll let me wear them???

Oh I would be nervous too - who wouldn't??? But think how good you will feel afterwards (well, after some recovery time!).

Can't answer about the nipple piercings... It would make sense if it were for an MRI, say, since it is all about the metal with an MRI. But I don't know what the reason for it is in regards to surgery.
