My GI has me confused.Looking for the boards opinion

I am sorry for the long post in advance as I posted a long one when I first joined but this board has some awesome people and just looking for opinions. My only two symptoms have ever been blood streaks which started for 3 months then stopped for a month then 3 months again and upper stomach cramps/discomfort that appeared for 2 weeks then 3 months later for a month. I had the colonoscopy and biopsies and the doctor said I had Ulcerative proctitis with mild inflammation throughout. I then get the write up of his report and the biopsy reports and all it says on there is moderate inflammation in 4 different parts and the diagnosis says proctitis, colitis. There is no word of any ulceration or ulcerative colitis.

My questions are. Is everyone reports exclude the word Ulcerative on there? How is it Ulcerative proctitis if there is moderate inflammation throughout? Since i am missing a lot of the symptoms is it possible I was misdiagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. Sorry for such the long post I just want opinions if maybe my GI is telling me two different things or if I am missing anything.

there may or may not be visible ulcers with UP/UC. moderate inflammation is worse then mild inflammation. sorry. the report is worse than you thought. they grade it mild, moderate, or severe.

not all inflammation is UC, but if infectious sources are eliminated, and if food allergies are eliminated, AND if the biopsies show cell deformation indicating chronic inflammation, then it is called UC/CP whether or not there are ulcers. "severe" is more likely to have ulcers.

everyone hopes it is a mistake. for a few lucky ones it is a food allergy or c.diff or some non-specific infection. for most it is the beginning of a series of flares. for some lucky ones they manage to stay in remission for a long time. for others it is a several year miserable slide into surgery. for a lot it is somewhere in between.

Yes. The biopsy and colonoscopy show different things.

Yes. You need to confirm with your doctor. If he tells you that you have Ulcerative..., then he needs to write Ulcerative in his reports.

What other symptoms? Blood streaks and cramping sounds like Ulcerative Colitis to me.

Oh yes. It can be Ulcerative Proctitis and Colitis if there is inflammation throughout the rectum and colon and the ulcers are still confined to the rectum. Ulcerative Colitis usually starts at the rectum and works its way up; so Ulcerative Protitis and Colitis can easily turn into Ulcerative Colitis. It's really just a matter of degree.

Thats the only two symptoms. The stomach pain is right above my belly button and the blood went away after the first night with canasa. Never had any diarrhea, never more than 4 bm's in a day the average is 1-2.

you can get a 2nd opinion on the path report. but if it showed deformed elongated crypt cells it is UP. don let the lack of D fool you.

now if it mentioned inflammation or proctitis, and did not mention deformed cells in mucosal lining, then ....

we can't really see you medical details/history. the question is answered. if you want to double check the diagnosis ask another doctor - not a bunch of internet strangers. we can provide info, we cannot provide rediagnosis.

It is normal for the pathology report to not say ulcerative colitis. The GI gathers information based on his own exam and the results of the pathology and puts them together to arrive at a diagnosis (ulcerative colitis). A pathologist cannot diagnose you with ulcerative colitis because they haven't examined you -- all they can do is assess the tissue samples that have been provided to them. Sometimes pathologists will write "consistent with ulcerative colitis" on a report, meaning that UC "makes sense" as a diagnosis based on what they've seen, but it's just as common for them to not write ulcerative colitis, because biopsies are not sufficient to make a complete diagnosis.

Yes the pathologists report said he agrees with the GI's diagnosis which said proctitis, colitis. I am def not looking for a diagnosis from the board just an opinion because my one dr whos daughter has it says he thinks I might not have it based on the report not mentioning it and for the last 6 months only having 2 minor symptoms. That is why I just wanted the boards thoughts. Also the report did not mention anything about deformed cells just the type of inflammation.

well get another GI to look at path report and ask if the proctitis is UP based on signs of chronic inflammation, and elimination of other possibilities for proctitis.
