there may or may not be visible ulcers with UP/UC. moderate inflammation is worse then mild inflammation. sorry. the report is worse than you thought. they grade it mild, moderate, or severe.
not all inflammation is UC, but if infectious sources are eliminated, and if food allergies are eliminated, AND if the biopsies show cell deformation indicating chronic inflammation, then it is called UC/CP whether or not there are ulcers. "severe" is more likely to have ulcers.
everyone hopes it is a mistake. for a few lucky ones it is a food allergy or c.diff or some non-specific infection. for most it is the beginning of a series of flares. for some lucky ones they manage to stay in remission for a long time. for others it is a several year miserable slide into surgery. for a lot it is somewhere in between.
