It sucks that major studies show that coffee is very healthy and reduces cancer probability as well as other diseases and my gut does not want it, silly gut. Gut rules my life and I must obey or suffer the consequences.I think the benefits come from the
antioxidant properties of the coffee bean and not the caffeine. It is possible in theory to get the same benefits from decaf, though I am not sure if the processing methods mess up the beans.
I would think the caffeine makes it a zero sum game in the long run since there are potential trade-offs - decreased adrenal function, more anxiety, increased heart rate, headaches, horrible withdrawals.
Good thing there are tons of other antioxidant rich foods out there.
