Hi all, it's been a while since I posted but in a nutshell:
first started bleeding March 2010. Flex sig showed inflammation in rectum and splenic fixure.
Colonoscopy a month later looked normal but shoĊµed microscopic inflammation in various parts of colon on biopsy. Was not started on any meds.
Nov 2011 started bleeding again. Only had flex sig in dec 2011 which showed active proctitis up to 20cm but they did not even visualise the splenic fixure. Commenced on pentasa both orally and rectally and flare subsided.
Continued on oral pentasa 2g for two trouble free years.
Early 2014 more flaring assoc with pain high up in abdomen. Colonoscopy April 2014 showed rectal inflammation until 10cm as well as patchy inflammation in the transverse colon where I had been getting pain.
Since then have had a few mild flares treated with doubling up oral dose of pentasa, rectal pentasa and rectal pred.
Flared badly over xmas just gone following a gastro bug. Things had been fairly settled but still some signs of not being right- lots of gurgling in left hand side of abdomen, bloating, alternating between constipation and diarrhoea so I had another scope today.
This has shown my rectum to look normal (which is bizarre as stopped with the pentasa rectally a month ago) but ulcerative colitis evident in left side and transverse colon so it has spread.
I guess my questions are, has anyone else got experience of protitis spreading. What would be the next treatment options? Also it looks like inflammation has come and gone in various parts of my colon over the last couple of years, is this normal?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post!
